Here's a diagram I'm collaborating on because I'm about to teach a few people how to sail:

A Nice Day for a Short Sail - Southern Straits 2010

Submitted by Christian Nally on Sun, 2010-04-25 03:48.

Personal Lessons Learned from the Southern Straits 2010 Sailing Race

I was very excited to be invited along for the 2010 edition of the Southern Straits sailing race this year. It would be my first time crewing for a boat in this race, and I was anxious to chase away some demons left over from my vomitous performance at the prior year's Swiftsure long course, on Stewart Richardson's Siam Princess.

My opportunity to go was granted thanks to Edward Karadontis. His boat, Dusty Mauch, is a well cared for Peterson 25 he keeps at WVYC.

The Weather Briefing to Beat All Weather Briefings

One of the strongest memories I'll take away from this experience was the very professional weather briefing given by Dave Jones (ahem!, yes that is his real name) from Environment Canada. His demeanor and professionalism was very much appreciated, and the organizers of Southern Straits are to be commended for having him come out to inform us all. The video posted by Astral Plane has a nice clip of part of that briefing that is well worth watching.

Food, Value, and Choices on How to Live Best

Submitted by Christian Nally on Fri, 2008-10-31 21:11.

Martine's experiences in the food program are really opening our eyes to food value. The quality that good food brings to your life is unlimited, and open ended.

I'm suddenly interested in the following question:

How much time and money is required to sustain a diet that is completely immune to complaint?

Ok, so that's a totally personal question, agreed. And there will be as many answers as people answering the question. It begs for sub-questions like "How often would such a diet include smoked Gouda?"

But perhaps you, the internet, can help me refine it.

Where do you draw the line in high food value for low time/money invested? And do those choices end in your having a diet beyond reproach?
