Yet Another Top Level Domain (some good advice lurks underneath the hype)

Submitted by Christian Nally on Thu, 2007-05-10 17:11.

Do we really need yet another Top Level Domain?

I got the e-mail from Network Solutions this morning. Is dot MOBI -really- going to be 'all that' for the mobile web? Something tells me dot COM works just fine, so long as your website is designed for it.

HOWEVER, one nice thing that Network Solutions has done for us developer-types... they've gathered a list of best practices for the Mobile Web in a single document.

Turning the Web on its Head

Submitted by Christian Nally on Sat, 2007-04-28 01:08.

I've just realized something very interesting (to me at least) about Web 2.0 and search.

The page rank for the facebook.com site is not as high as you might think. At the time of writing google's Page Rank for facebook.com is 6/10. Compare this with the page rank for my friend's web development shop at AMG Media Works, 7/10.

Now, to be clear, I'm saying two things... first off... I'm very impressed with the Page Rank(tm) that AMG Media Works has achieved. On the other hand, I'm very impressed with facebooks rise to massiveness, all without a large page rank. It really makes sense... who actually links to facebook during these early days for them?

I'm sure Google has taken notice of this. Can a purchase of facebook by Google or some other large interest be far behind?

Yahoo's Pipes

Submitted by Christian Nally on Sat, 2007-02-10 03:18.

Here's an idea that grips me as having quite a bit of potential. Yahoo's Pipes. Care to read NYTimes topics through a Flickr search? It's like Mashups for the Web. The web, the remix, all with a funky graphical interface.

More toys!
