For those following the saga, I -did- manage to leave Vancouver this morning. The sail over was a good one, and the conditions matched the weather forecast.
I'm coming to understand that each trip across the Straight has phases. The trip's just too long to be a single kind of experience. This time it was a sail under great conditions for the first half, and then a motor for lack of wind on the second half. Traveling in mid October, one gets the sense that summer is actually over.
This time I'm here on Galiano only for three days, then head out Friday night for Maple Ridge to attend 'Live Fire 1'. That's the course which serves as 'basic training' for fire fighters. There we'll get to go into a burning building to learn fire behavior, ooh ahh! =)
